Always include
- A unique invoice or quote number
- The date it was issued
- Your business name and contact details
- Your client's name and details
- A clear description of the goods or services, quantity, and price
- The total amount due, and the currency
If you're VAT registered
- Your VAT number must appear on every invoice
- Show VAT separately from the subtotal, at the rate SARS registered you for
- Keep a copy of every invoice you issue — SARS can ask to see them
Not registered for VAT? That's fine — most small and informal businesses aren't. Just leave VAT switched off below and your documents won't mention it.
